| Lydia's Five-year Anniversary |
|
Today is the 5 year
anniversary of my revascularized bone graft and radial shortening. My
surgery was done when I was in stage IIIA. While my wrist will never
be 100% normal I am able to do all of the things I need to do as a stay
at home mom. I have no regrets regarding my choice of surgery (other
than I wish it had been done before IIIA). My wrist has been feeling noticeably better the last few months. I think that it is because my youngest child no longer wants me to carry her all the time. I had my first child about a year after my surgery so more than 3 of the 5 years after my surgery were spent toting around a 7lb-22lb weight. Since it didn't hurt while I was carrying the children I didn't realize it was causing a lot of my minor wrist ache. My wrist feels so much better that I've decided to get back into gardening. I've done a few 1-2 hour stints digging, weeding, spreading wood chips etc. and my wrist is no worse for it! Yeah! So, if you have young kids don't give up hope. You wrist may improve once the kids are walking full time. Lydia Oct 27, 2002 |
