| When You Are Taking Antibiotics |
|
Kienbock's Disease is not an infection and is not treated with antibiotics, but there may be times when antibiotics are called for. After surgery, your doc may prescribe antibiotics. Your dentist may prescribe antibiotics before any dental procedure, even cleaning, depending on which procedure you've had done. Bacteria in the mouth are particularly able to infect the heart and get into the bloodstream. That can have devastating effects far beyond any KD. If antibiotics are prescribed, it is imperative that you take every pill, as prescribed, to keep from developing resistant strains of bacteria. While taking antibiotics, women on birth control pills need to know that they may get pregnant. They should be advised to use a supplementary method of birth control such as condoms or spermacides. Eating a serving of yogurt or drinking a serving of buttermilk each day will help the natural flora in the intestinal tract to flourish and prevent diarrhea or yeast infections that can accompany the use of antibiotics. A supplement containing acidophilous will do the same. Do not take antibiotics that are not prescribed to you. Do not take antibiotics that are left over from a previous prescription. Do not stop taking antibiotics just because you don't feel sick. If you develop a rash, notify your doctor. If your mouth, tongue, or throat begin to swell, or you begin to have difficulty breathing, race immediately to the emergency room; take your medications with you. Do not take the time to call your doctor first. Call him from the car or let the emergency room staff do it for you. These are symptoms of a life-threatening reaction. If necessary, call an ambulance.
