In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.

This is about FREE hospitalization, if you need it and they WILL help you!

PPARx Kids

PPARx

At PPARx you can actually sign up and possibly download applications from companies (if they are available). PPARx stands for Partnership for Prescription Assistance. You may have seen the commercials with Montel Williams. It's also the "Help is Here" bus. They've gone to all 50 states and plan on doing it all over again this year.

Tip: If you are taking a generic medicine and you think you might qualify for a PAP, then ask your pharmacy for the brand name so that they can find a PAP program for the brand name.

Most programs are based on the Federal Poverty Level. Usually a percentage - for instance, if someone were taking a more expensive drug such as Remicade, Enbrel etc. it would be 500% (that's about norm for more expensive biologics) of the poverty level.

HHS Poverty Guidelines

Department of Health and Human Services

Some companies are lenient and others aren't. Some publish their guidelines, while others don't. It's worth mentioning that if you find a website for prescriptions and are asked to pay a fee for an application, DON'T. Pharmaceutical companies do not charge for their applications and those other sites are rip-offs.

Some useful hints:

MAKE SURE YOU FIND A DOCTOR WHO IS WILLING TO FILL OUT THE FORMS

MAKE SURE THE FORMS ARE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY BEFORE SENDING THEM IN TO THE COMPANY

MAKE SURE IF INCOME DOCUMENTATION IS ASKED FOR THAT YOU SEND IN AN INCOME TAX RETURN AND SCHEDULES (IF YOU OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS), OR A LETTER FROM THE IRS OF NON-FILING, WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED BY CALLING A TOLL-FREE NUMBER AT THE IRS.

The majority of applications are delayed because the applications are filled out incorrectly or there is missing or conflicting information. If you don't get a response within a month, call the pharmaceutical company's Patient Assistance Program. Sometimes, faxes aren't received (even if the sender has confirmation that it was sent) or if they are sent back to the doctor's office, they are not responded to, etc.
